From a 40-year career in market research, Farquhar is one of South East Asia’s most experienced research experts. He has been an independent market research consultant since 2009.
He spent three decades with the Nielsen company, where he was Managing Director in Indonesia for 12 years, and Managing Director in South East Asia for 4 years. In that role Farquhar oversaw operations in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines; a region that saw explosive growth during that period.
Prior to working in Asia, Farquhar was research manager with the BBC World Service, designing and coordinating audience-research studies throughout the world.
Farquhar’s primary skills are in advising clients on the practical, actionable application, and interpretation, of available research data, and in advising on research design. He has an unmatched knowledge of the Indonesian research industry and of the Indonesian consumer.
He was one of the founders of the Indonesian Market Research Association, and has a wide range of contacts within the Asian market research and marketing industries. Farquhar has been a speaker at many Asian and International conferences.
He is a member of the Board of the NGO, Burung (BirdLife) in Indonesia, advising them on management and survey data collection issues. He is a graduate of the University of Edinburgh.
